Revised Visa Package “will create 1.3 million jobs in Europe”, predicts European Commission

Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to discuss the new Visa Package presented on Tuesday 1 April.

Ahrenkilde Hansen explains that the revised Visa Package rules are aimed at facilitating the processing of Schengen visas: shorter deadlines for a reply on visa applications, easier issuing of multi-entry visas and more consumer friendly applications through an online platform. A new type of visa will also allow a stay in the Schengen area for longer than 90 days. However, most importantly – according to spokesperson of the European Commission – this Visa Package will bring jobs and growth to the European economy, as up to 1,3 million new jobs in tourism and transport sectors are expected due to the easier visa rules.
