Parliament agenda: EPP Group priorities for the week of 7 March 2016

Although it is a Strasbourg week, Brussels will steal the spotlight with the International Summit where EU heads of States and governments will gather to discuss the EU-Turkey joint action plan and how to best tackle the migration crisis. On Tuesday and Wednesday,  key debates and discussions will be convened in Strasbourg ahead of the European Council set to take place on 17-18 March.

In other news, the Commission is expected to put forward a Communication on a public consultation on social rights and the revision of the Posting of Workers Directive. EPP group anticipated the Commission’s proposal in a position paper, highlighting the group’s stance strongly in favour of a Social Market Economy, or as Antti Timonen EPP Group spokesperson put it, ‘a Market Economy with a human face’, where competitiveness and welfare instruments go hand in hand.

Finally, on Tuesday, we will celebrate the International Women’s Day. On this occasion, many events and workshops will be held in Brussels. In Strasbourg MEPs will hold a debate and a vote on the improvement of living conditions for women refugee and asylum seekers. Remember, it is all about equality for all and it is about time things changed for the better.
