Migrant crisis: EU funds to tackle migration an “insult” to Africa, says AU Ambassador
African Union Ambassador to the EU, Ajay Bramdeo, says that the amount of funding earmarked for stemming the flow of migration from Africa to the EU is pitifully small. Currently, African countries have been offered €1.8bn funding over five years, aimed at increasing stability in the region. Turkey, in contrast, is to receive €3bn in exchange for its cooperation over migration. Speaking to ViEUws ahead of the Valletta Summit on Migration on 11-12 November, Bramdeo also urged European leaders to adopt a broader, more “humane” approach to the current refugee crisis, rather than focussing merely on security.
