Iran must match its words with deeds next week, says Ashton’s spokesperson
Lénaïc Vaudin d’Imécourt is joined by Michael Mann, Chief Spokesperson to High Representative Catherine Ashton, to discuss EU’s expectations from the talks with Iran next week.
This week, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, will be chairing the E3 + 3 talks with Iran on the country’s alleged nuclear programme. Ms Ashton’s negotiating partner will be Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iran. Reaching a clear consensus on the matter may ease international tensions and sanctions, first imposed on the country in 1979. As Mr Mann explains, the European Commission expects Iran to engage the proposed all-encompassing package and put their own ideas up for discussion. The Chief Spokesperson says they are hearing the right noises, but Iran ‘need to match their words with deeds’.
