“Europe can enhance security of supply by opening its gas market to the US”, claims ITRE chair Jerzy Buzek
Jerzy Buzek – Chair of the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) – discusses the energy priorities for the new parliamentary term with Hughes Belin.
In the interview Jerzy Buzek, who is also the former President of the European Parliament and Prime Minister of Poland, underlines that the reduction of energy prices and the enhancement of energy security in Europe are among the top priorities of the ITRE Committee. According to Buzek, the European Union could guarantee energy security in Europe in several ways: by improving energy efficiency, diversifying energy supply, opening its gas market to the United States, fostering new technologies in energy production, making better use of indigenous energy resources, such as coal and shale gas, as well as renewables. Finally, the ITRE chair argues that merging climate and energy portfolios at the European Commission level is a reasonable move by Jean-Claude Juncker, as the main climate problems are directly linked to energy issues.
