Delay of Tobacco Directive not in the interest of citizens, says Greens Group
Jennifer Baker is joined by Richard More O’Ferrall, spokesperson for the Greens Group, to discuss the upcoming vote on the revision of the Tobacco Products Directive.
With the next Strasbourg session just around the corner the Tobacco Products Directive vote is eagerly awaited by the Greens. The Group’s spokesperson shares his satisfaction with the vote in the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee in the European Parliament, ‘reflecting the seriousness of the issue’. However, he comments that the delayed vote, set up so that the centre-right parties can gain more support, is ‘not in the interest of citizens or public health’.
E-cigarettes and new cigarette substitutes were also discussed. Mr O’Farrell states that due to safety concerns, these products should be regulated similarly to other cigarette alternatives, already present in the market.
