Euro-drinks Run Dry at British Pub Chain

A British pub chain has announced it is to move away from a reliance on alcohol supplies from the Eurozone and switch to selling more home-grown and non-European drinks.
The pro-Brexit chairman of JD Wetherspoon public houses, Tim Martin, has announced the plans to stop selling French champagne and German beers, among other drinks from EU sources.
He said more of the pub chain’s sparkling wines will be from the UK and Australia, and beers would be sourced at home and from elsewhere in the world.
The plan won approval from Euro MEP and arch-Brexiteer Nigel Farage who tweeted “Good for them”.
Mr Martin claims the move aims to make the group more competitive ahead of the country’s planned departure from the EU’s customs union.
Groups representing British employers have warned of the risk of tariffs and border delays in their post-Brexit trade with the EU if they are outside the single market.
Meanwhile, the ambiguous Brexit position of British opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn has been further challenged from within his own ranks.
The left-wing organisation, which campaigned again university tuition fees for students and Government higher education reforms, has come out in favour of Britain staying in the EU.
The National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts (NCAFC) will join anti-Brexit demonstrations this summer and autumn by the National Union of Students (NUS) and will co-ordinate what it calls a “radical, left-wing pro-migrant bloc” as the UK prepares to leave the EU in March next year.
Christie Neary, of the NCAFC national committee, told The Observer newspaper that it was time Corbyn joined the battle to stop Brexit.
She said: “The only Brexit is a Tory Brexit – a racist attack on migrants and workers’ rights. Jeremy Corbyn knows that bankrupt hospitals, low pay and failing schools are the fault of bosses and relentless austerity, not migrants… it’s time Corbyn committed to the defence of free movement and workers, and that means leading the campaign to stop Brexit altogether.”
The NCAFC is not formally linked to Labour, but a majority of its supporters are Corbyn followers.
