We must value the world’s natural capital, says “nature’s banker” Pavan Sukhdev

Pavan Sukhdev  leader of the ground-breaking 2008 study ‘The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity’ and CEO of GIST, an Indian green consultancy firm – talks to AGRA FACTS journalist Rose O’Donovan about the fight against food waste and the importance of valuing the world’s natural capital.

Sukdhev hails the Common Agricultural Policy reform as a step forward, stressing that it is “investing public wealth in public good”, transcending the paradigm that opposes public and private investment. However, the issue of food waste needs to be addressed, with Sukdhev calling for young children to be taught a balanced approach to food consumption at home, as well as investing in grain storage on farms.
