Rio+20: we need to find recipes to move our planet in a more sustainable direction, claims Karl Falkenberg, DG Environment

Karl Falkenberg, Director General for Environment at the European Commission met with leading energy & environment journalist Sonja van Renssen to discuss Green Growth, Rio+20 – the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development – and the 7th Environmental Action Programme of the European Community.

Topics discussed include amongst others the significant increase of funds for undertaking climate action and the need for bringing a wide variety of policies together in one coherent European policy. An objective that apparently extends to Rio+20 as well, given that Falkenberg advocates that the goal of the conference is to bring coherence to global policy and convince the world that a green economy is the only growth path forwards for everyone.
