Migrant crisis: European Commission to publish a series of new proposals

Jennifer Baker is joined by James Holtum, spokesperson for the ECR Group, to talk about the migrant crisis and how EU Institutions are to deal with it.

The European Commission is to publish a series of proposals on Tuesday to address the issue. Their central plan would be to redistribute amongst Member States some 160,000 migrants who have arrived at European shores. This plan, not yet adopted, is more than likely to face a wave of criticisms from some Member States.

The European Parliament, gathered in Strasbourg for the first Plenary session of the Autumn season 2015, is to hold a debate on Wednesday with hopes to adopt a final resolution – to be voted on Thursday – to solve the crisis.
