Horizon 2020: Commission elaborates on areas of research and innovation it proposes to fund

Jennifer Baker is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to discuss the Commission’s announcement of the areas of research and innovation it proposes to fund in the first two years of Horizon 2020.

Horizon 2020 is the EU’s biggest research framework programme with a seven year budget of about €80 billion. Funding will go to projects on excellent science, industrial leadership and societal challenges. The Commission expects to enhance competitiveness in the European Union and to create jobs, especially in the areas ICT, digital research and public waste management.
