Gender equality: significant increase in women on boards, Commission states

Jennifer Baker is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to discuss the report on Gender Equality

On Monday 14 April, the Commissioner for Justice, Fundamental Rights & Citizenship Viviane Reding presented the report on Gender Equality which shows the Commission’s efforts to reduce the gender gap in fields such as employment, pay & pensions, to combat violence and to promote equality in decision-making. Ahrenkilde Hansen says that these efforts have borne fruit: “since we have announced the legislative action in 2010, we have moved from 11 percent of woman present on boards to 17.5 percent in 2014”. Ahrenkilde Hansen welcomes these results and stresses that more still needs to be done in solving gender inequality.
