Financial regulation in the lime light as LuxLeaks and money laundering take centre stage
Jennifer Baker is joined by Marjory van den Broeke of the European Parliament’s press office to talk about the Parliament’s latest actions on financial issues, including tax rulings and money laundering.
A special committee – the Tax Rulings Committee – has been set up for 6 months to probe Member States suspected of operating tax evasion schemes. Journalists from the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, who broke the LuxLeaks scandal, as well as other experts, are due to give evidence on Monday 11 May. Delegations from the Parliament will then be sent to concerned countries, starting with Belgium on Tuesday. Additionally, MEPs have pledged to toughen regulation against money laundering, ahead of a vote during the 18-21 May plenary session of the Parliament.
