Drones: huge potential for European economy, argues European Commission

Jennifer Baker is joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, spokeswoman of the European Commission, to discuss the Commission’s communication on drones, presented on Tuesday 8 April.

The civilian drones industry has been a significantly expanding economic sector in recent years. Therefore, according to the spokesperson of the European Commission, we need a single framework to deal with these unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used in different ways, such as supervising various infrastructures, detecting leaks of chemicals or coming in hand in disaster relief operations. Ahrenkilde Hansen explains that this communication will prepare ground for common rules on drones’ safety, will ensure security of information flows and establish clear framework for liability and insurance.
