Danish Minister for Agriculture Mette Gjerskov on Animal Welfare

Ed Bray, editor of Agra Facts / Agra Focus, met Mette Gjerskov, Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, during the Animal Welfare Conference jointly organized by the European Commission and the Danish EU Presidency to discuss animal welfare in the European Union.

Topics discussed include amongst others; plans to improve animal welfare during the Danish EU Presidency (00 :41) and the debate surrounding a maximum journey time for animals to slaughter (01:28) in the EU. Furthermore, the Danish Minister claims that the European Union cannot compete with the world based on low wages, but instead can be a serious competitor by producing high quality products according to EU animal welfare standards (03:57). Mette Gjerskov stresses her belief in seeking a future for European food production in green and organic growth (04:30).
