Collective management of copyright needed “to strengthen the digital single market”

Jennifer Baker is joined by Paolo Alberti, spokesperson for the S&D Group, to discuss the collective management of copyright.

On Tuesday 4 February, the European Parliament voted on the directive on the “Collective management of copyright and related rights and the multi-territorial licensing of rights in musical works for online uses in the internal market”, which would make licensing of music for online use easier. The directive also aims at strengthening the digital single market: “By creating a pan-European music licensing system we could get rid of the national territoriality and move towards a single market with increased transparency”, says Paolo Alberti.
